Insight into Virtual-O running model #2
Today I will finish talking about running speed modifiers or penalties.
Everything is symbol based
So we have these running speed penalties:
-
Map looking time penalty
-
Map slope penalty
-
Slope penalty
-
Steepness penalty
Very important thing about them is that you can alter their behaviour with customizable curve. And that’s not all. Most important feature is that this curve can be specific for every symbol.
Model real world behaviour
This enables you to express different cases that wouldn’t be possible without it:
-
Symbol based penalty for looking into map. For example it’s really difficult to look into map while running on stony ground, but you can achieve nearly full speed on the road.
-
Penalize your running speed while looking into map downhill in difficult terrain. Make this penalty smaller for easy terrain etc
-
Virtual-O will slow you down while contouring steep slope.
-
Different speeds while running downhill or uphill for every symbol. For example going downhill at 45 degree angle can be really demanding in rough terrain. Running down stairs could be easier.
